THE GOAL

The goal of the In Harlem as it is in Heaven campaign is for the people of Renaissance Church to dig deeper roots for the purpose of creating greater Kingdom impact, both in Harlem and New York City. We want to partner with God in the renewal of our great city. We will do this by focusing on two main initiatives:

• Form a Community Development Corporation (CDC)
• Purchase a permanent building or secure a long-term lease for Renaissance Church and the CDC

THE CHALLENGE

Since its launch, Renaissance Church has rented space from PS 76 in Harlem. We have been grateful for this fruitful partnership, which has allowed us a place to hold weekly worship services and programming, and has given us direct access to show the tangible love of God to the staff and students of a local, under-resourced school. At the same time, the lack of our own space significantly limits the ministry and community outreach we believe God wants us to do.

THE INVITATION

During the In Harlem as it is in Heaven campaign, money will be raised by every household committing to a greater sacrifice – above their normal giving – for the next 25 months. This money will be designated to support our two main initiatives – forming a CDC and securing 24/7 space.

The In Harlem as it is in Heaven campaign is a 25-month financial commitment, above your regular giving. Here are three ways of giving to prayerfully consider:

COURAGEOUS GIVING: AN UPFRONT GIFT

Give the largest financial gift you have ever given to Renaissance Church. This will be your kickstart gift toward your 25-month commitment.

Pledge a monthly gift, above your regular giving, for the next 25 months. If you would like to set up your Consistent Gift online, where you can track your pledge progress and choose to set up recurring giving.

CREATIVE GIVING: ASSETS

Consider things like stock, crypto, cars, collectors items, land, real estate. Do you have questions about a non-cash item and how best to liquidate it? Fill out this form, and our Creative Gifts Team will follow up with you!
Combine these three ways of giving, and the total is your overall commitment.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

A community development corporation is a non-profit organization that works to improve a community by addressing needs like housing, health, safety, education, job creation, and economic development in a specific area. We will start and staff a CDC as a means to take our mission beyond the walls of Sunday gatherings and into the neighborhood. Our goal for the CDC is to create lasting change driven by our kingdom values. It will allow us to partner with local businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies that offer support, resources, and opportunities that we are locked out of as a church. The CDC will operate out of a permanent building for Renaissance Church.

A PERMANENT HOME

We want to be known as a church that is deeply invested and rooted in Harlem. And sadly, this is hard to communicate as a set-up and tear-down church. A place of our own, with ample space for worship services, kids and youth ministry, and community outreach programming will allow us to do more together for God’s kingdom.

We are celebrating our church's faith and generosity to the In Harlem as it is in Heaven campaign. We are also forming five committees to help define our strategies and tactics as we pursue our campaign initiatives:
