COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE

Part-time, 20 hours per week

DESCRIPTION

Renaissance Church is a dynamic and multicultural non-denominational church in Harlem with more than 700 regular attendees. The church’s mission is to connect people to Jesus Christ and to each other, and effective communication plays a key part in that mission.

The communications associate will be responsible for website management, email communications, and providing communication support to various ministries. This individual will play a crucial role in engaging our congregation and helping people get more connected to the church’s mission. The right candidate is a thoughtful, creative, and detail-oriented person who can anticipate the questions, needs and motivations of our community members and develop messaging in response.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Guide the editorial development—including outlining, drafting, editing, and proofing—of email, web, and in-service announcement content to ensure they adhere to organizational standards, being clear, concise, engaging, and audience-appropriate
  • Write, design, and distribute engaging emails to our mailing list of 4,000+ subscribers, including newsletters, event invitations, and important announcements.
  • Segment email lists based on audience preferences and interests to ensure targeted communication
  • Monitor email and web analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns/web content and make data-driven improvements
  • Regularly update and maintain the church website to ensure accurate and up-to-date information
  • Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to develop new website and church announcement content
  • Create or format graphics for the web or social media channels
  • Ensure brand identity standards are maintained across various platforms
  • Assist with designing and fulfilling church merchandise, such as print materials and branded swag
  • Respond to inquiries received at info@renaissancenyc.com or via website contact forms
  • Support the promotion of Sunday worship services and special events via Google Ads and social media promotions

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Deep commitment to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and emotional health
  • Alignment with Renaissance Church’s mission and values
  • BA or higher (or equivalent experience) and 2+ years of demonstrated professional experience in communications, journalism, public relations, copywriting/marketing, and/or social media
  • Excellent writing skills, including experience drafting original content and constructively editing the work of colleagues
  • Demonstrated proofreading skills and knowledge of writing standards
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adopt “the voice” of Renaissance Church, based on prior experience writing from various perspectives
  • Experience with website content management systems (such as Squarespace or Wordpress), social media platforms, and email marketing software (such as MailChimp or Constant Contact)
  • Experience with contact management systems, such as CCB, Salesforce, or Planning Center
  • Proficiency with InDesign, Photoshop, and Canva preferred
  • Basic HTML/CSS knowledge preferred
  • Superb attention to accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a collaborative environment and work well with multiple stakeholders toward a common goal
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple assignments simultaneously, and meet deadlines
  • Excellent time management skills and experience working in deadline-driven environments
  • A genuine desire to create the best possible product and a willingness to ask questions

SALARY RANGE

The estimated salary range for this part-time position is $35,000 to $40,000. Please note that the actual salary offered will be based on a wide range of factors, including relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
